Here are a few photographs I took with my phone using the Instagram app. It almost fills the void left by Polaroid but I don’t think I’ll ever really use my phone like a camera.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

David Fincher is directing an English language version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo based on the first book in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy. I recently watched The Social Network and thought the musical score by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and Atticus Ross was pretty good. They’re working on the score for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the trailer features a cover of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song with vocals by Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Fans of Fincher’s films and Reznor’s music should check it out.

Shuttle main engine start

I watched some HD footage of recent space shuttle launches. That sort of thing still blows my mind. This is the final year of the NASA space shuttle program. The space shuttle Discovery was retired last year. Endeavour is currently in orbit. Atlantis is scheduled to launch on the final mission at the end of June 2011.

I just wanted to share this footage of Atlantis’ launch on 14 May 2010. Amazing.

I’ve spotted some additions of new and old work over on the Groovisions website. Lovely stuff!

Wired 18.04

Wired magazine 18.04

Without mentioning -that- device, I’ll simply say I like the cover of the latest issue of Wired.

A slight annoyance since the launch of the UK edition – I don’t know who’s idea it was to stick the massive AMERICAN EDITION sticker on the cover (I’m guessing the publisher and not the importer) but I wish they’d at least make them easy to remove.

Here’s one for all the Flickr addicts out there. It’s a simple concept – you love looking at quality photographs and have a taste for certain things. Your favourite photographers only upload new work every so often and looking through their own selection of favourites on Flickr is time consuming. You lose track of where and when you looked and can end up going round in circles. Flickr Explore doesn’t cater to your tastes. There is of course, a better way.

Created by Jedrek Kostecki, ffffl*ckr is a neat way to discover photographs you’re likely to enjoy.

Use it to find the photography you like using the simple idea that people whose work you like, probably like stuff you’ll like. You start with a set of pictures – if you authenticate, it’ll use 20 of your last 100 favorites – otherwise it’ll start with somebody’s favorites. Click any picture to load more. Don’t like what that person likes? Scroll back and click a different picture you like. It’s that simple.

You have 4 functions in total:

1. Click the picture to load that photographer’s favorites.
2. URL opens the picture in a new window or tab.
3. Click the upper right hand corner to view the image large.
4. If you’ve authenticated, you can fav pictures straight from the app. Just click the star and you’re good to go.

I’ve been using the site for a few weeks now and I love it. Thanks, Jedrek!
